The patient is positioned so that the operative site is easily accessible. Some sterile drapes are used and fixed into position to reduce blood trickling onto the patient’s eyes and ears. It is preferable to have a nurse in attendance to assist. The patient has been told that he will have an injection, which will sting, but he will feel no pain with the procedure.
